I was Keith Richards Drug Dealer

As my friends and regular readers will know...I love reading books about the Stones. So much so in fact that someone I know stuck a line in one of their songs about it. However, that's another story. A good one but not as good as the aforementioned book.

"I was Keith Richards Drug Dealer" is a funny title for this book as pretty much the whole way through Tony Sanchez tries to make out he wasn't in a "I was just buying a little percy for me mates, honest guv" manner.

Anyway who cares! Stories about the Stones are always wicked and this one is no different. I love the way he describes Marianne and Anita and he doesn't hold back in some of the more skanky things that went on. However, I really do admire his sensitivity around the death of Anita and Keith's newborn baby. "A Season in Hell with the Rolling Stones" does not treat the incident so delicately.

Tony Sanchez is a bit of legend and any Stones fan NEEDS to read this book. Even if just to turn you on to a whole bunch of new stuff...I have just jumped on Amazon to order all of Kenneth Anger's films because Sanchez got me so excited about them.

Marianne Faithful - Memories, Dreams and Reflections***

So I have finished the current Marianne book in once again record time. There is something about all of Marianne's stories that keep you entranced. Now this is very different to Faithful - her original and hugely successful first biography. It is more little tidbits from that first book with an update at the end I guess mainly concentrating on her cancer scare.

This is probably only for REAL Marianne devotees and doesn't cover much more than the first novel - it's clear this was done for money. I hate to say it as you know I love her heaps but a girls gotta do.

Highlights include the chapter on Henrietta Moraes, "She was a precocious little Existentialista, at an early age a habitue of infamous Soho watering holes" and when she receives a curse from the director Kenneth Anger. "You Jew! You Jew, like Kirk Douglas, like DANNY KAYE!". Utterly hialrious - her description of life in sixties is second to none and the legions of crazy characters she portrays are utterly enveloping. A must for any face.

My copy of Marianne Faithful's latest book - Memories, Dreams and Reflections arrived last night.

Seeing as her first biography was the best biog I have ever read I am tres excited....I am about 40 pages in now and its FAB!

Pamela des Barres is releasing a new book today – you can see excerpts and take part in a little quiz here.

I have read 'I’m with the Band' – her infamous 1987 book which is the story of her seriously rock n roll life – conquests including Jimmy Page, Noel Redding, Jim Morrison and the honour of having turned down Jimi Hendrix!

It’s a great read and a must for any rock n roll aficionado. I will be posting my review of her latest book as soon as I can get my hands on a copy…

My Heronine...Miss Patti Boyd

The Times Online has a sweet interview up on the site today with one of the women I admire the most from my favourite decade. The reason being Miss Boyd has published a book finally spilling the beans on her infamous relationships with George Harrison and Eric Clapton.

The muse for both artists (perhaps more so for Clapton) inspired the lyrics for such classic songs as Layla and Wonderful Tonight. I have ordered my copy from Amazon and cannot wait to read it.


There are excerpts available online which I am sure you will take a peak at. To be honest it does kind of remind me of the Absolutely Fabulous sketch where Patsy has slept with some famous politician and she says its not 'like the sixties when there where all these gorgeous little things like Mandy Rice-Davies'. Its true...to be 'with the band' then had (and for me still does) this serous air of coolness. I think thats why I love all them girls - Marianne Faithful, Anita Pallenberg, Patti et al. They were just soooo alluring.

Damn why wasn't I born then?

Anyways at least its helped me decided what to wear and where to go this weekend...silver 60's tunic and Madam Jo Jo's.
