Top 10 Greatest Rock n Roll Bands Ever

Over at the home of indie they are compiling a list of the Greatest Rock n Roll Bands Ever...

Sounds like one of those dodgy compilations eh? Well all not looking too bad except two major things.

1) The Stones are at No.4 when clearly they should be No.1
2) Manic Street Preachers are at No.8, now that's just silly

Get on their, vote and get the Stones to where they belong!

It's All Gone a Bit Pete Tong - Radio 1 Blamed for Crazy Teen House Party

I love this story. This is what today's youth should do more of. An 18th birthday party at Grade II listed building in Bovey Tracey, was flooded with nearly 2,000 gatecrashers after it was mentioned on BBC Radio 1 by superstar DJ Pete Tong...

Luckily bouncers had been hired for the event, which was originally open to 100 guests, but they were reportedly unable to keep the crazy teenagers at bay being forced to call the police to disperse the gatecrashers.

The owner
of the house, Rebecca Brooks, told BBC News: "I blame the BBC for this. We are considering our options. It was terrifying, absolutely terrifying. The droves of people coming towards the house was frightening, it looked like we had a rock festival here. "They left a complete mess, with broken glass everywhere and pictures off the wall and broken - it was a rave situation."

The gatecrashers continued the bad behaviour in Bovey Tracey, including breaking shop windows.

FABULOUS! Skins has so much to answer for;)

Good old Keef sticking up for Winehouse...kind of

There is a great irony in the fact that good old Keef Richards has been quoted in the media today criticising Amy Winehouse's drug taking:

"Amy's got to get smart," Keith Richards explained in an interview. "That girl isn't going to be around long unless she sorts herself out pretty quick."

I am currently on page 326 of Keith Richards, The Biography by Victor Bokris. Now this is a very explosive book. With moments of great glory but more often than not filled with depressing and shocking tales of a very sad but talented man. It took him 10 years to kick the junk.

So I reckon he is pretty qualified to give her a dig. After all if Keith Richards is worried about Amy - there must be something seriously wrong.

You could almost take him seriously...

"She should get her act together," says Richards. And after a pause: "Apart from that, I have got nothing to say to the bitch."

Boys given Festival Tickets in Exchange for Sperm

Spermfortickets.com has today announced that due to dwindling stocks in Ireland, young men would be offered festival tickets to a European festival of their choice in exchange for a drop of their precious man juice. My god I seriously pat the back of the PR guru who came up with that idea. Its bloody genius!

So quel surprise they are massively inundated with offers from people like Gary, 17 from Preston who thinks yay I get kinda paid to have a wank. However, surely there is something completely morally reprehensible about this?

And then we find out...oh its only a pilot. Brilliant. PR 9, stupid UK public 1. The scheme will never happen and is just to create some spin.

Young White Soul Singer Conundrum

I should be happy about this but I am getting a little sick of these young, white, soul singers. Not one of them is a patch on the originals and none of them come close to the Winehouse.

I like Duffy's new single and all credit for hitting the number one spot on downloads alone but I am bored of it already. Rockferry is far better and hopefully will be a more successful single.

As for Adele et al...they are just pale imitators.

All Hail the Winehouse, Queen of the young, white, soul singers!

Queen to attend Eels gig?

Awww EELS frontman, E has penned a very sweet letter to out very own "Her Majesty" ahead of his gig at The Royal Festival Hall on February 25th.

Very cute*

Your Majesty,

My name is Mark Oliver Everett. My friends call me "E." I am the singer in an American rock band called EELS. We will be playing a show at your Royal Festival Hall on the evening of February 25th and I would like to extend an invitation for you to attend our performance. We have played the Festival Hall several times and I've noticed that your royal box is usually empty. I'd like to change that. We have also played your Queen Elizabeth and Royal Albert Halls. I don't think you were at those shows either.

I recently saw the movie "The Queen" and while I know that wasn't actually you in the film, it made me think that I would like you as a person. I'd like you to be one of the people who call me "E." If you're free February 25th, please come down to the show. It's sold out, but I would be happy to put you on the guest list. I also have a new book, Things The Grandchildren Should Know, and two new compact disc and DVD collections, Meet The EELS and Useless Trinkets. I think you'd enjoy them and I'd be happy to give you complimentary copies of each, which I will even sign for you after the show.

If you're busy, I understand. But if you can free up your calendar, we'd love to see you there. Thank you for your time, Your Majesty.

Sincerely,

Mark Oliver Everett
aka E

Liam Gallagher and Nicole Appleton wed

Ahhhh how romantic. Our very own bad boy of indie Mr Noel Gallagher finally made an honest woman of the lovely Nicole Appleton yesterday on perhaps the most corniest day of the year.

The couple, who have a seven-year-old son Gene, married in a low-key ceremony at the Marylebone Registry Office – the same place Gallagher married his first wife, Patsy Kensit, in 1997. It's also where his here, Paul McCartney, married his first wife Linda in 1969.

The couple were so keen to keep their plans quiet, they turned down six-figure deals from glossy magazines and even posted seven different dates and eight venues on their wedding invitiations to paparazzi off the scent.

Even guests, including Liam's brother Noel and mum Peggy, and Nicole's sister Natalie and her Prodigy hubby Liam Howlett, were kept in the dark until the last minute.

One guest said: 'It was exactly what they wanted - romantic, spontaneous and with only their nearest and dearest.'

Liam took time out from recording a new Oasis album in LA to come back and get married.

Congratualtions!

The Enemy Vs Anyone Better than Them Round 2

That Tom Clarke from The Enemy really gets up my nose. He has been dissing Arctic Monkey’s in an interview with BBC 6 Music.

Apparently the eloquent Tom Clarke thinks, "That first video was out, You Look Good On The Dance Floor, y'know I looked at that and I thought: 'There's a bunch of working class lads from a proper town playing a tune like they mean it,'" Clarke continued. "It was quality and I went out and bought the first album and I thought it was top, some really good songs on there. And then I was bitterly disappointed when I got the second - just dull."

What a loser! Dull? Has he heard his own album? Methinks this all smacks of craving publicity and a tinge of jealousy. Maybe we should get Kasabian to put them back in their place?

Reading and Leeds Festival Drop Carling Sponsorship

Hooray for the greatest news of the day. After my major moaning last Summer about the tackiness of festival sponsorship it appears there is a god!

Melvin Benn, director of festivals for promoter Mean Fiddler has confirmed that Reading and Leeds's 10-year contract with Carling has come to an end and that a replacement sponsor will not be sought.

"I wanted to reclaim the name Reading festival and the name Leeds festival," Benn told BBC 6 Music. "I wanted them to return to their roots, so to speak. I didn't want the events to be called after a sponsor. I'm not asking another sponsor to come in."

Its been known as the Carling Weekend for some years now - with most people still referring it by the respective town names instead. I remember when I worked at the Virgin Megastore in Reading and Virgin sponsored the festival we got free tickets. A much less corporate affair than the Carling sponsorship. But then look at the corporate fest which is V Festival. Absolutely hideous!

So whats next for all the other venues that Mean Fiddler has renamed? The Brixton and Islington Academies for starters. Bring back the original names we all still call them by those anyway!

Led Zepp Vanish from You Tube

The mystery of the disappearing You Tube vids of Led Zepps performance at the O2 this week seems to have been cleared up.

YouTube have now anounced they were foreced to take the clips down by Warner Music Group.

Sad really - will it really impact sales of the planned DVD or just make Warner look like over protective wallys?

What do you think?

Dylan sells out...again

News has just reached Jukebox HQ that the much loved (here anyway - you only have to see how many times I ref the guy) Bob Dylan has sold out again (Victoria's Secret I kinda understand it but Starbucks? Come on!)and is now the face of the Cadillac Escalade.

Kelly Nestruck is blogging about it on the Guardian site and its a cracking read.

Why are all the people I idolise acting strange? Is it maybe because they really weren't that cool in the first place? My mind won't even entertain that idea. I'd much rather believe anything pre-1980 was cool and that anything thereafter is shit. Yes glad I cleared that up I feel much happier now.

Congrats to Liam and Nicole

Being a huge Oasis fan I was happy to hear that Liam and Nicole got hitched on the weekend - well according to Sara Cox.

So did they or didn't they? Maybe Coxy said it to throw the press off the scent.

Either way good luck, mwah*

MySpace Vs Facebook

I was a fierce supporter of MySpace back in the day (www.myspace/tw1ggy1967 - natch!) but after I moved across to Facebook it became simply a tool for me to engage with bands for this blog and FB became very important in terms of organising my social life and keeping in contact with my mates.

Now for me MySpace is very clunky and slow and Facebook beats it hands down in terms of ease of use. However, if you want to hear new music nothing beats MySpace (as long as you can sort the wheat from the chaff) So news today that MySpace is planning to open its destination to third-party developers, a move that mimics a structure found on Facebook is very exciting.

The social networking giant may unveil the developer platform as early as next week, according to information circulating on TechCrunch. MySpace will support Flash applets, iFrame elements and Javascript snippets, and also offer access to information like user profiles, friends lists, and activity history, according to the report.

The concept, called MySpace Platform, will also allow third-party developers to serve their own advertising. That follows a period of resistance by MySpace to outside advertising, and also mirrors an approach used by Facebook. The MySpace move, if realized, opens considerable possibilities for music-focused initiatives.

Come on Myspace!!!!

J-Lo and Pickard of the Pops - Genius!

Oh how I love The Guardian. They have been doing these mickey take analysis' of music vids - "Pickard of the Pops" for a while and they have me in stitches. The latest victim is the mighty J-(is she or isn't she pregnant - who cares anyways?) Lo. You can see the article here but it tells the tale of the Lo's latest vid with great wit. Perhaps the best bit being - Location: The Block. (damn I wish I was that funny)

My Top 5 Guardian Pickard Pops
  1. Justin Timberlake - What Goes Around
  2. Do it Well by Jennifer Lopez
  3. Drivin' Me Crazy by Common featuring Lily Allen
  4. Stronger by Kanye West
  5. My Way by Ray Quinn
P.S - Hope you like pic I chose to illustrate this blog...perhaps the absolutely worst choice in headgear since Devo and the Flowerpots. I bet her stylist was sacked after that monstrosity

One big fat reason why I love Kasabian...

According to NME Kasabian's Tom Meighan and Serge Pizzorno kicked The Holloway's out of their Business Class airline seats on the way home from Japan's Summer Sonic Festival...

Tee hee I love them because they are hard, rock n roll and beat up crappy bands like The Holloways.

Couldn't you have just pressed the passenger seat eject button?

Hoorah for Kasabian!

Winehouse' s Woes

Oh Amy, Amy, Amy.

Things aren't looking good at the moment are they?

After seeing this pic of Amy earlier today with her looking really quite frail I have to say I was quite worried. The girl looks exhausted, in need of a good meal and a total break.

It now seems her appearance at V next week is in question. You know I think the festival organisers should pull her appearance. Not in a horrid way but its clear she shouldn't be performing. Why keep pushing her to do more and more?

Lets look at the evidence:

  • Amy Winehouse has been discharged from hospital after collapsing from a suspected drugs overdose yesterday (August 8).
  • Winehouse was given an adrenaline shot and had her stomach pumped at London's University College Hospital on Tuesday (August 7).
  • She immediately cancelled her appearance at the Oya music festival in Oslo this weekend (August 9-12).

Her spokesperson is reported to have said that there was currently no change to her plans and it was still her intention to play the event, while a spokesperson for the festival told NME.COM:

"Everyone one is wishing her well and hopes to see her at
V."

In my opinion it would be awful for her to go the way of other great singers...someone for god sake step in and give the girl a break before its too late.

Best Wishes girl x

Rosie's singles club...and the Trannycat Sluts

Once again Rosie Swash's Tuesday Singles Club has had me in stitches.

Somewhat unlucky for us Nicole Scherzinger (the one with a modicom of talent over at PussyCat Dolls central) has decided to release a solo single. Obviously its shit...I don't need to elaborate on that as anyone reading this I'm sure will agree. Its the flipping words that grate both Rosie and I.

"I'll do whatever you like, I can do, I can do, I do, I do whatever you like."

I've said it before in many drunken outbursts (last time was at Mogwai when they were playing Pussycat Doll clips on the screens before the gig - why?) but what the hell are this group of tramps hoping to achieve? Girl power isn't dressing up in the sluttiest clothes you can find, grinding around on the floor and begging to do whatever a blokes wants. Thats just doormat behaviour.

For those that of you that don't know me firstly I'm not a big, fat, hairy, feminist, lesbian and I don't feel threatened by attractive girls wearing minimal amounts of clothes - in fact sometimes I quite like it;)

I just felt like Rosie that these girls are painting an untrue picture and ruining everything Emmeline Pankhurst and her comrades fought for.

"Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like me?" - its a global disgrace.

Oooh hooray I managed to get someone else's boyfriend to look at me. How great I must be. The sad fact is I could only do it whilst dressed in one of Jack the Ripper's victims clothes as otherwise they would have mistaken me for a man.

And you know what's most scary - the average age of their is probably about 7.

Two short ones for ya'll

Firstly...does this honestly constitute news - Courtney Love Trashes Hotel Room???

I mean for Christ's sake the women is a washed up
old cronie and Noel Fielding is only knobbing her to get into the tabloids. I wonder how many hits you'd get if you googled *Courtney* *Trash* *Room* - 65 billion or something ridiculous like that?

Next one Fearne Cotton is modelling the new range of
'festival' clothes for New Look - seriously get a frickin life. Ever heard of individuality? Thought not.
